We are pleased to report the results of UNISON Essex’s 2020 aggregate Annual General Meetings, which took place on 9th to 11th March 2020.
As we have members all over the Essex, the meetings took place over three days at three different locations in the county – Chelmsford, Colchester and Southend – to give as many of our members as possible the chance to attend.
Over tea, coffee and pizza, UNISON Essex members agreed the budget for the branch’s spending in the year ahead, and discussed ways the branch could engage with and support its membership. The branch’s activity and spending in 2019 was also explained.
The following members were elected as branch officers for the year ahead:
Chairperson: Kevin Appleby
Secretary: Jane Dabbs
Health and Safety Officer: Richard Bond
International Officer: John Adams-Hughes
Retired Members’ Secretary: John Abrehart
Black Members’ Officer: Morenike Oriade
Women’s Officer: Jenni Tinsley
Lifelong learning co-ordinator: Cilla Taku
Each meeting also welcomed a speaker on mental health in the workplace, a subject which affects many of our members. Special thanks to Steven Walker, Dr Nick Blondel and Jim Lewis for their fascinating talks.
We concluded each meeting with a raffle to win a rainbow bear, with all proceeds going to UNISON’s Welfare charity, There For You.

It was great to meet so many members at the meetings, and we hope to see even more next year!
