We have now received confirmation that the UNISON conferences that were due to take place in the second half of 2020 have been cancelled. This includes Disabled Members’ Conference, LGBT+ Conference, and Retired Members’ Conference.
This decision has been made by the President and the General Secretary, in consultation the National Committees affected by the cancellations.
Over recent weeks it has become increasingly apparent that the health and safety issues raised by the COVID 19 pandemic and the continued enforcement of social distancing will be with us for some time, making it clear that the union will not be permitted to hold any physical conferences in the short term. This decision has been taken now to give branches certainty when planning activities over the coming months, to ensure the union’s focus continues to be on supporting activists and members in the workplace and to protect our activist’s health, safety and wellbeing.
Further consideration will be given to the conferences due to be held in early 2021 as the timetable for preparing for these will start very soon. Discussions will take place with the relevant National Committees to consider options, if social distancing restrictions are likely to continue into the new year.
UNISON Essex are always seeking new delegates to represent the branch at conference throughout the year, and we hope that in 2021 we will be able to offer this opportunity to our members again. More information is available on our conferences page.
