Training

UNISON runs an extensive range of courses to suit everyone from new stewards to more experienced representatives.

The first step for newly elected stewards is to complete the Organising Steward training course.  Once this is complete stewards will be accredited, which means they can start representing members formally. Newly elected health and safety representatives will also be asked to complete an introductory course.

The Branch produces a short newsletter each month called Learning Point, which is sent to all activists to inform them of upcoming courses.  You can download the latest edition below.

Stewards are required to be re-accredited every five years by attending recertification training.  Check Learning Point to see when the next recertification training is due to be held.  If you’re an accredited steward and not sure if you need to be re-accredited, contact the Branch Office to check.

If you would like to attend a training course, you will need to complete the course application form and return it to the Branch Office, together with a signed copy of the Branch Training Agreement.  Your application will need to be approved by the Branch Secretary or Branch Education Coordinator before you can be booked onto a course.
